Hi I have got a brand new mainsail incredibly cheaply (round of beer prices). The sail foot is 7 inches longer than the old one so I have a couple of options which include;
Get someone to cut it down, seems a shame, or make an insert for my boom end or get another boom. Boat is 40 years old and has not a lot of monetary value.
Anyone used any sail local sail makers other than the chap at force 4 that they can recommend. Anyone know of a boom with a foot length of at least 2.8m? Current boom is a roller reefing one, this system is no longer used.
Cheers
Michael

I've always found Dick Hannaford at R&J Sails in Clevedon (http://www.rjsails.co.uk/contact.html) to be really helpful whenever I've needed anything modified or fixed sail-wise. I think he's more into dinghy sails than big stuff, though he has fixed up our Griffon's genoa a couple of times. Couldn't hurt to give him a call.

Thanks for the tip. Interestingly I wrote to about 5 sailmakers both in and around Bristol and one near my boat in Hampshire and only 1 got back to me so business must be very good for these guys.
